The Howell Recreation Touch a Truck event will be held on May 11th at Tanger Outlets. The event will take place from 9 am to 2 pm. We will be hosting a sensory-friendly or quiet hour from 9 am to 10 am. The purpose of this event is to allow children of all ages to come to explore the inside of trucks or vehicles they frequently see around town and provide them with information about the purpose of each organization or vehicle. No registration is required.

We are bringing back the annual Melon Ball with a twist! This year's Melon Ball will be held at Chemung Hills Golf Club and Banquet Center from 6-10 pm on August 10th as a kick-off to the Melon season.

Howell Melon Run

Howell Recreation and presenting sponsor ChemTrend proudly present the 47th Annual Howell Melon Run (we welcome runners, walkers, and those racing in wheelchairs and other assistive devices) on August 16, 2024, events begin at 6 PM in beautiful downtown Howell.

This year's race will feature classic events for the whole family such as the Melon Roll, The One in a Melon Mile, The Mascot Dash, and the fan favorite Howell Melon Run 5k.

100% of the net proceeds go to providing community programs for the Howell area. 

Registrations on or before 7/25/24 are guaranteed a short sleeve race shirt. Registrations after that date will not receive a shirt. Any leftover shirts will be available for purchase starting one week after the race is complete for $20 each. 


Results:

Your accurate chip time and current overall and age group place will be texted to your phone and live on this site. 


The race will be chipped timed by the Michigan Running Foundation.

2nd Annual Never Forget 5K & Trail Run/Walk

Livingston County Veteran Services, First Responders, and Howell Recreation present the second annual 9/11 “Never Forget 5K Trail Run/Walk.”  Join us at Fillmore County Park on September 14th at 9 am as we remember those who lost their lives that day, as well as our military veterans and first responders who went into harm’s way as a result of the attack. This trail is not stroller-friendly and is not paved. All runners will receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal.  A portion of the proceeds will go back to Livingston County First Responders Benevolent Fund. As much as we love your furry friends, we are kindly requesting that only service dogs join us.

Headless Horseman 5K & Monster Mile

The Headless Horseman 5K is BACK and SPOOKIER than ever! This dusk event will be in-person and kick-off at State and Clinton Streets in beautiful Downtown Howell. Costumed participants will wind their way through the historic neighborhoods and through Scofield City Park. Participants will receive a long-sleeved shirt if registered by the end of the day on September 30th.  

Early Packet Pick up will take place Oct. 15th -18th at the Oceola Community Center 1661 N. Latson Rd. Howell MI 48843 during normal business hours. 

This year's race will have a Rolling Start with runners starting at 6 pm, you can start the race anytime between 6 pm and 6:10 pm. This will allow for participants to be spaced out at the start of the race, along the course, and at the finish line. Walkers, strollers, assistive devices, and dogs on 6ft leashes are welcome. 

Please note that funds from this program help to cover not only costs incurred from the program itself but also help to make the Legend of Sleepy Howell possible. This longstanding community event offers a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience and helps especially those kids living in rural areas. Thank you for your support!

  • Does the deposit come off my balance?

  • What age is this camp for? 
    To qualify for camp your camper must have completed kindergarten and not yet entered middle school as of June 2024 

  • Can I register a sibling who has not been to camp before? 
    Yes, as long as that sibling is in your household. 

  • What if I cannot make it to the in-person registration night? 
    January 23rd from 6-9pm at the Oceola Community Center will be the only time registration is available for summer camps. 

  • I will be late can I have a friend hold my spot? 
    The short answer is no. When arriving you will be given a card with a number, once that number is called it is your turn to register. If the number is called and no one comes to register, we will move on to the next number and the spot will be forfeit.

Tis’ the holiday season and Howell Parks and Recreation is excited to present the Abominable Snow Race - a Scavenger Hunt event where teams will compete for the elusive Yeti Trophy, amazing prizes, and supreme bragging rights. Your team of 4 will complete multiple challenges throughout Howell in a race to the finish line.

In order to participate and maximize the fun there are a few tips, tricks, and rules to know:

  • We will start our road rally at Bennett Recreation Center at 4 p.m. and finish at a secret location for a holiday party!

  • Must be 21+ to participate 

  • 4 people per team and per car

  • Bring $5 per person in spending cash, you may be asked to purchase a product to complete a task (There will also be a cash bar at the end)

  • A designated driver must be named

Santa's S.T.E.M. Workshop

Join us for brunch with Santa at this year’s Santa’s S.T.E.M. Workshop! The workshop is filled with activities for your little ones to enjoy like our button making, ornament painting, and awesome S.T.E.M. experiments! Of course don’t forget to get your picture taken with the Santa and enjoy a nice breakfast provided by the teens of The Hive Teen Center! 

Parents/guardians may purchase breakfast on site for a suggested donation of $5.00

TIME: Session 1: 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM & Session 2: 11:00AM - 12:00PM

WHERE: The Hive Youth and Teen Center (Bennett Rec Center 925 W, Grand River Ave. Howell, MI 48843)

Rudolph may not have been able to join in the reindeer games, instead, he created his own and wants to invite the whole family to come play them. Travel around town and complete all his fun challenges to win a prize. You can pick up your activity book starting December 4th at the Oceola community center and prizes can be collected starting December 11th. 

Only one person needs to register for the whole team or family.

Combat 1 is coming to Howell, MI on Saturday, December 2nd. Be there LIVE to witness the BLOCKBUSTER pro wrestling event of the year StarSlam! The brightest stars and biggest personalities will all be on display in an event you will have to see to believe. A portion of each ticket sold will benefit The Hive Youth and Teen Center and their mission to provide a safe environment for kids after school.

Tickets will be available at the door (while supplies last).

Santa’s Mailbox will be in place outside the Oceola Community Center on 1661 N. Latson Rd. starting November 27th*. Get your letter in the mailbox by December 13th for a guaranteed letter back from Santa himself.

*The Mailbox will be at the Fantasy of Lights Parade at 11/24 and at the Oceola Community Center 11/25 and beyond.

Come share your hunting stories with us at the annual Buck Pole event at Marion Township! Prizes will be awarded for those who bag:

Surprise your kids with a personalized video from the big man himself!  Register today and provide some details about your child’s wish list, activities, etc.  Then we will work with Santa to record your child’s video (approx. 30-60 sec) and Santa will email them to you on December 22nd.

Headless Horseman 5K

Headless Horseman 5K

The Headless Horseman 5K is BACK and SPOOKIER than ever! This dusk event will be in-person and kick-off at State and Clinton Streets in beautiful Downtown Howell. Costumed participants will wind their way through the historic neighborhoods and through Scofield City Park. Participants will receive a long sleeve race shirt if registered by the end of the day on October 8th. 

Early Packet Pick up will take place Oct. 24th - 27th at the Oceola Community Center 1661 N. Latson Rd. Howell MI 48843 during normal business hours. 

This year's race will have a rolling start with runners starting at 6 pm, you can start the race anytime between 6 pm and 6:10 pm. This will allow for participants to be spaced out at the start of the race, along the course, and at the finish line. Walkers, strollers, assistive devices, and dogs on 6ft leashes are welcome. 

Please note that funds from this program help to cover not only costs incurred from the program itself but also help to make the Legend of Sleepy Howell possible. This longstanding community event offers a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience and helps especially those kids living in rural areas. Thank you for your support!

PACKET PICKUP:

Packet pick-up will occur on Oct 24th - 27th at the Oceola Community Center at 1661 N Latson Road, Howell. 

If you can not make it to early packet pick up you can always check in on Race Day (28th) starting at 5 pm on the corner of State St. and Clinton St.

Legend of Sleepy Howell

We’re excited to bring Legend of Sleepy Howell, Livingston County’s Largest outdoor trick-or-treating event back to Downtown Howell! This year’s theme is Saturday Morning Cartoons and we want to see your best cartoon costumes!

This year’s Legend will have FREE trick-or-treating on Clinton, Court, and Church St. There will also be Halloween and fall-themed activities on State St. and the Howell Courthouse lawn. Activities include crafts, games, food vendors, inflatables and more!

No sign up is required, just show up the day of.

Join us for a cooking class with Chef Chad from Chemung Hills Golf & Banquet Center.

You will get to help prepare, cook, and enjoy a delicious meal. There will also be a cash bar. The class will go 6 - 9pm at Chemung Hills Golf & Banquet Center.

Shrimp Amoglio with Toast Points

Tender jumbo shrimp sauteed in a spicy italian tomato saurce with grilled bread.

Tossed Salad

Seasonal tossed salad with apples, squash, sharp cheddar, and heirloom tomatoes with a homemade basil gorgonzola dressing.

Beef Madeira

Sauteed beef tenderloin in a classic madeira and mushroom sauce served with cheesy potatoes savoyard and green beans almondine.

Creme Brule

The classic dessert with fresh berries and whipped cream.
