Legend of Sleepy Howell 2024 FAQ
Where do I park?
Any public lot is available for parking during the event provided it is not in the event footprint. Please remember to be especially watchful for pedestrians during the event as there will be more people in downtown Howell than typical.
Is there handicapped parking?
There is no handicapped parking lot but each public lot has handicapped parking space available.
When is the event?
3pm-5pm on Saturday, October 19th.
Where is the event?
This year’s Legend of Sleepy Howell is located in Downtown Howell on State St. and the connecting side roads behind the Howell Courthouse.
Why isn’t Grand River being closed like it used to be?
Grand River is an MDOT road which makes it very expensive to close down for a FREE two hour event. The current event footprint has been used the past few years and has worked well.
Why is it so crowded?
This event is a free event for the entire community. It is hard to predict an exact number of people in attendance but there will be crowds. Please be patient and be prepared for a large number of people in the event footprint.
Is there a costume contest this year?
Yes we have a costume contest and a Canine Costume Contest. To participate, you’ll need to take a picture in your costume next to our costume contest sign on State St. during the event and post it to facebook using the #SleepyHowell24. Our staff will be picking the top three in each contest the week after Legend and winners will be contacted accordingly for their prizes.
What other activities are going on at this year’s Legend of Sleepy Howell?
We have a variety of other fun activities at this year’s Legend of Sleepy Howell including giant yard games, Halloween displays, bounce houses, and more. Check out a full list of this year’s activities online at: https://www.howellrecreation.org/schedule-of-events
When is the run?
The Headless Horseman 5K and Monster Mile takes place at the corner of Clinton and State St. starting at 5:30pm. On-site registration and on-site packet pickup start at 5pm.
Can I still get a race shirt if I sign up now?
No. Our T-shirt deadline for both runs was September 30th. If we have any additional shirts, we will announce it the week after the event and they’ll be available for purchase at the Oceola Community Center in limited quantities.
