Join Howell Recreation for a festive holiday event! We invite you to pick up a small 24-inch mini Christmas tree and unleash your creativity by decorating it. Once your tree is beautifully adorned, please bring it to the Oceola Community Center by December 14th.

On December 14th, attendees of our "Rec the Halls" event will receive a raffle ticket to vote for their favorite mini tree. The top three trees with the most votes will win a small prize!

Get into the holiday spirit and show off your decorating skills. We can't wait to see your festive creations!

Take a break from the usual grind at The Hive on November 5th! Whether you're chilling, catching up on homework, or diving into some epic fun, we’ve got you covered. We’ll cap off the day with a 4:00 PM showing of Venom: The Last Dance at the Historic Howell Theatre. Lunch is on us, and you can add a small pop and popcorn for just $5! All you need to do is sign up and show up.

About the Master Plan:

The Howell Area Parks & Recreation Authority (HAPRA) has developed a Multi-Jurisdiction Parks and Recreation Master Plan that includes the following communities and entities: Howell Area Parks and Recreation Authority, City of Howell, Howell Township, Genoa Township, Oceola Township, Marion Township. The Plan evaluates existing recreation opportunities, review’s public input regarding recreation, establishes recreational goals, and proposes a five-year schedule of improvements and other related items the Authority wishes to pursue. A copy of the Draft Plan is available for review using the link below:

The 2025 Ugly Sweater Pickleball Tournament presented by Howell Recreations "Deck the Halls" is here this December, 14th 2024 at OCC. Wear your ugliest sweater to join us for some friendly competition and a chance to win some sweet prizes. This will be open to 12 teams, level play 2.5-3.0, open to mixed, women's and men. Only ONE member of your team needs to register. Games will begin promptly at 1:00pm and follow suit 30 minutes after. 

Guaranteed Number of 3 Matches: 3 matches guaranteed. Please see tournament format below. 

Officials: ALL medal matches will be officiated. During pool play, officials will be on the floor over seeing all courts.

Tournament Format: 

  • Pool Play - round robin - best to 11, win by 2

  • Pools of 4 team, top team from each pool will advance to tournament play

  • Tournament play bracket- best to 11, win by 2

  • Championship match - best to 2 out of 3, first to 11, win by 2

  • Medals will be distributed to all first, second and third place teams for the 2.5-3.0 group

2024 Howell Recreation Snow Ball Tournament (Dodgeball)

Get ready to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge! Join us for an action-packed evening at Howell Recreation’s Snow Ball Tournament during our Rec the Halls event. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or trying dodgeball for the first time, this tournament is perfect for everyone!

Cost: $20/team
*Please note- all athletes who are interested in attending the ALL day "Rec the Halls" event at Howell Recreation MUST purchase a wrist band at the door. Dodgeball players may arrive at the gym around 5:30pm 12/14.


Registration:

  • One person from each team will need to register as the team manager.

Gather your squad and see if you have what it takes to be crowned the dodgeball champions! Sign up today for a chance to compete in this exciting tournament at Howell Recreation!


Tournament Details:

  • Team Size: Up to 10 players (6 players will compete at a time).

  • Game Format:

    • Each match consists of two 10-minute halves.

    • Single elimination format: teams can play up to 3 matches before the championship round.

  • Prizes: Sweet prizes for the champions!

Schedule:

  • Date: Saturday, December 14th

  • Where: Court 1

  • Start Time: Games begin promptly at 6:00 PM and continue every 25 minutes until the championship round at 8:30 PM.


Rules:

  • A team consist of 6 players. Each Team must have 4 players checked in to start a match

  • Each team needs to have at least 2 females per team (2 females playing each new round) 

The Match: 

  • The match will consist of one 20 minute game, with two 10 minute halves. The team with the most points at the end of the match will win. 

  • A team will earn a point after eliminating the entire other team. 

  • If the 10 minute time ends for the first half and both sides still have player(s) remaining, the next half will start with a reset of both teams. 

  • Team will switch sides at the half (played on Court 1) 

  • Overtime will be played if game ends in tie

    • Overtime will be 2 minutes

    • If a whole team is eliminated, they lose

    • If at the end of 2 minutes no team has been fully eliminated, the team with more players left will win the match

Full rules will be emailed to all team mangers after registration. Please allow 24 hours.

Tis’ the holiday season and Howell Parks and Recreation is excited to present the Abominable Snow Race. A Scavenger Hunt event where teams will compete for the elusive Yeti Trophy, amazing prizes, and supreme bragging rights. Your team of 4 will complete multiple challenges throughout Howell in a race to the finish line. In order to participate and maximize the fun there are a few tips, tricks, and rules to know.

  • We will start our road rally at Bennett Recreation Center at 4 p.m. and finish at a secret location for a holiday party!

  • Must be 21+ to participate 

  • 4 people per team and per car

  • Bring $5 per person in spending cash, you may be asked to purchase a product to complete a task (There will also be a cash/card bar at the end)

  • A designated driver must be named 

  • Dress to impress it might just lead to bonus points

  • Only one person from your team needs to register and choose your team name

The Headless Horseman 5K is BACK and SPOOKIER than ever! This dusk event will be in-person and kick-off at State and Clinton Streets in beautiful Downtown Howell. Costumed participants will wind their way through the historic neighborhoods and through Scofield City Park. Participants will receive a long-sleeved shirt if registered by the end of the day on September 30th.  

Early Packet Pick up will take place Oct. 15th -18th at the Oceola Community Center 1661 N. Latson Rd. Howell MI 48843 during normal business hours. 

Please note that funds from this program help to cover not only costs incurred from the program itself but also help to make the Legend of Sleepy Howell possible. This longstanding community event offers a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience and helps especially those kids living in rural areas. Thank you for your support!

2nd Annual Never Forget 5K & Trail Run/Walk

Livingston County Veteran Services, First Responders, and Howell Recreation present the second annual 9/11 “Never Forget 5K Trail Run/Walk.”  Join us at Fillmore County Park on September 14th at 9 am as we remember those who lost their lives that day, as well as our military veterans and first responders who went into harm’s way as a result of the attack. This trail is not stroller-friendly and is not paved. All runners will receive a t-shirt (if they sign up by Aug 16th, 2024) and a finisher medal.  A portion of the proceeds will go back to Livingston County First Responders Benevolent Fund. As much as we love your furry friends, we are kindly requesting that only service dogs join us.

Howell Recreation and presenting sponsor ChemTrend proudly present the 47th Annual Howell Melon Run (we welcome runners, walkers, and those racing in wheelchairs and other assistive devices) on August 16, 2024, events begin at 6 PM in beautiful downtown Howell.

This year's race will feature classic events for the whole family such as the Melon Roll, The One in a Melon Mile, The Mascot Dash, and the fan favorite Howell Melon Run 5k.

100% of the net proceeds go to providing community programs for the Howell area. 

Registrations on or before 7/25/24 are guaranteed a short sleeve race shirt. Registrations after that date will not receive a shirt. Any leftover shirts will be available for purchase starting one week after the race is complete for $20 each.

Spring has sprung and it is time to get out of the house! looking to have a night out without the kiddos? We have you covered with our spring Kids Night Out program. Drop the kids off at The Hive Youth & Teen Center for a night of pizza, games, movies, and more!

Drop off opens at 5:30 PM and children must be picked up by 10:00 PM. Registration is required.

Cost: Resident - $35 / Non-Resident - $50 per child

The Howell Recreation Touch a Truck event will be held on May 11th at Tanger Outlets. The event will take place from 9 am to 2 pm. We will be hosting a sensory-friendly or quiet hour from 9 am to 10 am. The purpose of this event is to allow children of all ages to come to explore the inside of trucks or vehicles they frequently see around town and provide them with information about the purpose of each organization or vehicle. No registration is required.

Join us for an evening of cinematic fun and trivia! Test your knowledge of movies and enjoy the thrill of competition.  Check out the raffle baskets and don't forget to bring cash for the 50/50 raffle.  All proceeds from this event and the raffles will go to support Team KEN-Obi as she competes in this year’s Senior Survivor! This year’s charity of choice for Senior Survivor is Community Catalyst.

Event Details:
Trivia will start promptly at 6pm and will consist of 2 rounds. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 scores for teams from both rounds.

  • Food and drinks available for purchase.

  • Must be 16+ to participate

  • Must be 18+ to purchase raffle tickets

  • Must be 21+ to purchase alcohol

  • Cost: $40 per teams.  Teams can be 2-8 people (cost is the same)
