UPDATE REGARDING STREET SHOES:

Fall and winter weather brings all sorts of rain, mud, snow and salt that can damage the gymnasium floors. Street shoes are not permitted when using the courts. Please bring an extra pair of shoes to wear when using the gym space at the Oceola Community Center. Thanks for your understanding and patience!

Pickleball Drill and Play: 3rd Drop Shot

Join Coach Terry and his team for an engaging 2-hour Saturday clinic focused on mastering the '3rd Shot Drop'—a crucial skill for elevating your pickleball game! This clinic is designed for players aged 21 and up, specifically targeting advanced beginners to advanced intermediate players (2.0 and above).

What to Expect:

  • 3rd Shot Drop Focus: Learn the technique for hitting this essential shot after the serve and return, aiming to land in your opponent's non-volley zone, also known as The Kitchen.

Follow-Up Clinic:

  • A "Dinking" clinic will take place immediately after. To participate in both sessions, please register for each.

What to Bring:

  • Dress comfortably for movement.

  • Bring a clean pair of flat-soled shoes for the courts.

  • If you have a paddle, please bring it along.

  • A water bottle filling station and restrooms are available just outside the fieldhouse.

Basketball Ref Clinic (Ages 14+)

Love the sport of basketball? Looking to make money? We need you! 

This fun, hands on referee clinic is the first step to officiating here at Howell Recreation! 

Join Coach and MHSAA Official Anthony (Tony) Engelberg as we dive into all things Basketball Officiating. During this hour and a half clinic participants will start in meeting Room 2; here you will learn fundamentals, rules and basics of officiating basketball as well as the sport in general. After, 45 minutes will be spent in the fieldhouse on an active court learning positioning, run through and much more. 

All ages welcome. Please bring gym appropriate shoes and something to take notes with. 

*Participants who attend this clinic will automatically be considered for a pay raise while officiating for Howell Recreation!*

Boy's season begins January 2025- looking for help!

Karate for Kids (Ages 4-14)

This program combines two crucial courses into one, Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project: Secure Child (child safety).

Students will be trained with proven, age-appropriate techniques that are necessary for kids to protect themselves from attackers. This program is set in a fun yet structured, environment which will give your child a positive outlook on learning a martial art. Participants will achieve great self confidence and leadership through the physical techniques, mental strategies, drills and exercises they are lead through.

Uniforms are available, but not required.

Karate for Families (Ages 4 & Up)

A parent and child program for all ages! You must register each family member. Set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program allows parents to learn alongside their children. Physical techniques will be instructed along with drills and exercises, to help you have a positive experience with your self defense education. Sanchin-Ryu will teach you how to use your whole body, rather than just certain muscle groups, so size and stature are not an issue. 

Uniforms are available, but not required.

Co-Ed Youth Lacrosse Clinic (Ages 5-13)

Join Howell High School coach, Matt Swift during Howell Rec's Lacrosse shooting, dodging and skill development clinic. This clinic will help players become more confident with their sticks as well as their understanding of when and how to dodge successfully. The 12:00pm-1:00pm Clinic is geared toward beginner to intermediate experience in all youth age groups.

Advanced Co-Ed Youth Lacrosse Clinic (Ages 9-16)

Join Howell Highschool Varsity Lacrosse Coach, Matt Swift. Featuring an advanced stickhandling and dodging clinic to help intermediate to advanced players continue to improve their footwork, stick positioning and creating space to allow for better shots on goal. Individualized sessions will help players improve their dominant and offhand shootings and passing. Clinic is geared toward intermediate to advanced players.
