Oceola Community Center Gym Courts Calendar

UPDATE REGARDING STREET SHOES:

Fall and winter weather brings all sorts of rain, mud, snow and salt that can damage the gymnasium floors. Street shoes are not permitted when using the courts. Please bring an extra pair of shoes to wear when using the gym space at the Oceola Community Center. Thanks for your understanding and patience!

Pickleball Clinic 2 (skill level 1.0 to 2.5)

This clinic is designed to benefit 12 players per session. **T-Shirt Included.

Prerequisite – Pickleball Level 1 or Equivalent Play

  • More intense instruction than learned in Pickleball 1

  • Introduction to 3rd shot drop

  • Footwork

  • Slow play vs fast play

  • Placement of shots

  • Working with your partner

  • Suggest skills to work on

Karate for Kids (Ages 4-14)

This program combines two crucial courses into one, Sanchin-Ryu Karate & Self-Defense and Project: Secure Child (child safety).

Students will be trained with proven, age-appropriate techniques that are necessary for kids to protect themselves from attackers. This program is set in a fun yet structured, environment which will give your child a positive outlook on learning a martial art. Participants will achieve great self confidence and leadership through the physical techniques, mental strategies, drills and exercises they are lead through.

Uniforms are available, but not required.

Karate for Families (Ages 4 & Up)

A parent and child program for all ages! You must register each family member. Set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program allows parents to learn alongside their children. Physical techniques will be instructed along with drills and exercises, to help you have a positive experience with your self defense education. Sanchin-Ryu will teach you how to use your whole body, rather than just certain muscle groups, so size and stature are not an issue. 

Uniforms are available, but not required.

Midwest Youth Team Tennis Clinic

Join Coach Daniels and Howell Recreation to learn how to play Tennis! Tennis promotes numerous health benefits beyond physical activity. Tennis teaches children teamwork, communication, balance, agility, hand-eye coordination as well as problem-solving and self-reliance, all while having fun and making friends! Partnering with Midwest Youth Tennis, we specialize in youth learning the in's and out's of tennis!  No racquet?   No problem!  We will provide one!

Summer Soccer Camp

Looking to keep your kids busy while developing soccer skills this summer? This camp offers soccer players of all levels the opportunity to develop skills, tactics and their overall knowledge of the game.

Howell Rec’s Youth Soccer summer camp provides a fun environment for players to learn new soccer skills (dribbling, passing, shooting, etc.), play games and make friends! Thursday, August 8th makeup day if a day is canceled due to weather.

Adult Tennis Clinic

This class teaches the basic skills of tennis and is ideal for adults who have never played tennis or those getting back into the game after a long hiatus. This class is also designed for players with a basic knowledge of tennis looking to improve their skills. Coach Sam Daniels is excited to work with you!

Please bring an appropriate pair of shoes, water bottle and racket if you have one - few will be available on site.

Fall Basketball Referee Clinic (Ages 14 & Up)

Do you love the sport of basketball and looking to make money? We need you! This fun, hands on referee clinic is the first step to officiating here at Howell Recreation!

Join Coach and MHSAA Official Anthony (Tony) Engelberg as we dive into all things Basketball Officiating. During this hour and a half clinic participants will start in meeting Room 2; here you will learn fundamentals, rules and basics of officiating basketball as well as the sport in general. After, 45 minutes will be spent in the fieldhouse on an active court learning positioning, run through and much more.

Please bring gym appropriate shoes and something to take notes with.

*Participants who attend this clinic will automatically be considered for a pay raise while officiating for Howell Recreation!*
